You're not going to dodge it completely, but I hear many people blame prednisone for things like weight gain, face swelling, ect. But, I switched to this strict diet after ending up in the hospital (same time they put me on the preddie) and I've actually lost 25 lbs (went from 195-170) and feel 1000xs better than I ever have. I'm tapering now (down to 20mg a day). So, I'm excited to see how things end up with the crap totally out of my system. But from all the things I've read, your body will generally go back to just the way it was pre-preddie. Once you're off it long enough.

The next day, Styxxie is breathing so much better!  It sounds like her injectable steroid is clearing up her nose so much better than her liquid drops!  So awesome.  She said we could try putting some socks over Styx’s legs (like, baby socks) to see if they help until her fur grows back, but Styx might hate them.  So we’re going to pick some up on Friday to see if they help.  I have a feeling they will drive Styxxie nuts, but I’m thrilled that Styx can breathe better!  It makes me happy that my little kitty is getting some relief.  The poor girl is so sneezy and we’re always wiping her nose.

Over a month ago the Sarcoidosis caused me to develop Lupus Pernio, which is deforming my nose and entering my sinuses. Went on a daily dose of 20 mgs of Prednisone. The side effects were horrible. Moon Face, swollen ankles and hands, insomnia, mood swings, weakened legs, constipation and on and on. My Prednisone was dropped to 5mgs last week. My doctor prescribed Remicade and I had my first treatment last week. With the exception of headaches, I didn’t experience any side effects. My moon face has dropped in size and I’m no longer retaining water. Also my moods have evened out.
If you can go on Remicade do it!

I am not the only person on the forums who has tried cutting carbs - and most who have done so have either lost weight or didn't put weight on despite being on pred. It is definitely worth trying. You may not eat much in terms of calories - but the amount of carbohydrate may simply be too much. Most days I eat less than 50g of useable carbohydrate - when I eat more I don't lose weight for a few days. I eat meat and fish with salad and loads of veggies that are grown above ground. Very little fruit. Fruit and vegetables that are grown below ground have a lot of carbohydrate. Whether it is "healthy" carbs or not has nothing to do with it - it is all processed in the body to glucose and the pred has the effet of turning it to fat. On your wait and hips and your face.
