A highly effective (but expensive) treatment now recommended by the American FDA and British NICE guidelines for use as the preferred third line add-on treatment of Chronic Urticaria unresponsive to high dose antihistamines, includes subcutaneous injections of 300mg Omalizumab (Xolair) once a month for 6 months.  Recent studies on this monoclonal antibody (previously only used in asthma) show that once initial control is gained (after one month), the dose may be halved to maintain control for the 6 month induction period which can result in total remission of the Urticaria. However at least 40% will relapse after withdrawal of Omalizumab.  (Zuberbier et al, EAACI Guidelines urticaria, Allergy 69(7) 2014)

I am allergic to mango. I don’t break out until about 2 or three days later. Why is this? I try to avoid it at all costs, but 2 days ago I was at my nephews wedding and had put some fruit on my plate that looked to be peaches, which it did have peaches in it. The mangos in it looked just like the peaches. No one told me it had mango. I ate a good portion of what was on my plate until I got a hint of mango flavor. Obviously the peach juice had overtaken the mango flavor and I was unAware I was eating mango. Upon tasting it, I turned to my sister and said this taste like mango. She said ubruptly, yes it has mango in it. So now after 2 days I’m breaking out.

[4] [34] Oxandrolone has also been sold under the brand names Antitriol ( Spain ), Anatrophill ( France ), Lipidex ( Brazil ), Lonavar ( Argentina , Australia , Italy ), Protivar, and Vasorome ( Japan ) among others. Lots of unsubstantiated alternative eczema therapies are promoted in the press. Be wary of these claims.  Miraculous natural cures for eczema often contain crushed cortisone tablets.  Evening Primrose oil (or gamolenic acid), flaxseed & omega 3 oils offer no real additional benefit to eczema.   Chinese herbal tea extracts have been evaluated but taste unpleasant and may even cause liver toxicity. Recalcitrant eczema on the face may respond to non-steroidal immune-modulator preparations such as Tacrolimus (Protopic) and Pimecrolimus (Elidel) however skin redness may be a temporary side effect. Ultra-violet light therapy treatment has been helpful so get out into the sunshine! There is growing proof that lactobacillus GG probiotics (Reuterina) supplemented in pregnancy, breastfeeding and early in life may reduce eczema in babies by altering their gut immune reactivity.

Antibiotics, particularly those in the penicillin and sulfa groups, are the most common cause of drug allergies. [1] Most drug allergies are usually limited to hives, swelling, and skin rashes, but some people experience rare and life-threatening reactions, called anaphylaxis. [2] Drug allergies are caused by your immune system mistaking the antibiotic for a foreign substance, inflaming your skin or, in more severe cases, restricting airways and causing shock, which can lead to unconsciousness or death. [3] If you experience the symptoms of anaphylaxis, it's crucial that you seek medical help immediately, as it is a medical emergency. Learning how to treat skin rashes and recognize the signs of a more severe reaction can help you feel your best, and could save your life.
